Monastery Penteli
Pendeli is located just a few kilometers from the center of Athens to the north and is a beautiful and quiet area with Mount Penteli dominates with its imposing nature, the dense pine forests of unique natural phenomena and urban legends that go with it.
After about half an hour time distance from Athens, and after crossing Mount Penteli after an amazing journey, we arrive at the Pendeli Monastery (Monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin Penteli). This impressive and historic church was built in the 9th century. During the Ottoman period functioned as a ‘secret school’, playing a key role in maintaining the Greek education and culture and providing hideout rebels.
As close to the Monastery Penteli can visit the monastery of Ag. Panteleimon which is located on the top of the mountain in a stunning location of unique beauty that exudes serenity and spirituality. We visit the interior of the temple, and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view of the whole of Athens and its suburbs.
